8th World Water Forum 2018

THE WORLD WATER FORUM

The World Water Forum (WWF) is organised every three years by the World Water Council and a host country. It represents a place for debate and exchange regarding the themes of access to water and sanitation for all.

The 8th World Water Forum will take place from the 18th to the 23rd March 2018 in Brasilia.

PS-EAU IN THE FORUM

 

Monday 19th March      

10:30 -11:15am:  Book(s)launch of 3 essential publications to reach the SDGs
Coffee point, French Pavilion in the exhibition area     

Organisers: pS-Eau, (Re)sources, Projection        ­
During this event, the pS-Eau will launch its new publication “The SDGs for water and sanitation services. Interpreting the targets and indicators”. It is the translation of a first edition in French, now made available in English. Two other books will be presented: the book “Parier Sud” from the young professional organization Projection, and the collective work of the think tank (Re)sources “Water, Energy and other essential services: advocating for integrated approaches”.  

Tuesday 20th March

1-2pm: Side-event « Solar energy for small water supply services » (SE-05)       
Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center, 40 (room 4)    

Organiser: pS-Eau  
This session will discuss the use of solar energy for small water supply services. It will first be the opportunity for the speakers to provide a feedback and lessons learned from a workshop which was organized by pS-Eau and the SEDIF in Senegal in January 2018. Concrete examples will then be presented.

4:30-6pm: Thematic session 2.b.2 - Whole sanitation approach, sanitation chain, innovation (TP-17)       
Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center, room 23

Organiser : ABES (Brazil) with an intervention from the pS-Eau
This session will provide an opportunity to discuss sanitation chain through the stages of collection, storage, transport, treatment and recycling/reuse of faecal matter. Participants will consider innovative technological, social and economic models that can accelerate progress towards achieving safely managed sanitation services. Participants will also examine ways of sustaining these services in a global context of rapid urbanization and high population growth, especially in developing countries with limited financial resources.

Wednesday 21st March  

1-2pm: side-event « Sanitation services in small towns » (SE-06)    
Ulysses Guimarães Convention Center, 41 (room 3)    

Organiser: pS-Eau       
Speakers: Martin Gambrill (World Bank), Dame Ndiaye (pS-Eau), Cléo Lossouarn (SIAAP), Cecilia Rodrigues (GIZ-SuSanA), Prit Salian (I-San Consulting), Katrien Van Hooydonk (Protos)     
In this session, several speakers will be invited to present their experiences of sanitation in small towns, in particular in Ecuador, Uganda, Senegal and Latin America. The panelists will discuss the challenges to ensure the sustainability of sanitation services in these areas.

3-3pm : Sanitation, Wastewater and Water Management in a Circular Economy
Side event, French Pavilion in the exhibition area        

Organisers: pS-Eau, Syndicat Interdépartemental d’Assainissement de l’Agglomération Parisienne (SIAAP)        
Speakers: SUEZ, Secours Islamique France, Syctom, Ipemed – Université d’Istanbul
This side-event will discuss two themes: the sharing of several experiences of the development of sanitation chain in small towns, with a focus on Subsaharan Africa, and the challenges for developing innovation and circular economy in cities.

4:30-6pm: Special session - From the 7th to the 8th World Water Forum: Three years of Implementation Roadmaps [SS-TP-01]

Organisers: Korea Water Forum, World Water Council, with an intervention from the pS-Eau

 Solar Energy for Small Water Supply Services. Challenges and opportunities      
     

From the 31st January to the 1st February 2018, the pS-Eau and the Syndicat des Eaux d’Ile de France (SEDIF) have brought together around 30 water stakeholders in Saint-Louis, Senegal for a regional workshop. pS-Eau publishes today a first brief note from the debats held during the seminar;
