Stormwater management

Stormwater issues are regularly highlighted as a major concern for many local politicians in developing countries. This question appears mostly in neighbourhood located at the low topographic areas of cities, where brutal rainy events generate floods, but more broadly, it questions the urban growth and the city development.

In 2009 pS-Eau started working on this topic in answer to many request from partners. An expert group was organised, which led to the elaboration of a concept note, aiming at:

  • characterise stormwater issues and identify their associated challenges
  • identify influence factors on stormwater management in cities
  • identify the different approaches used in developing countries to tackle this issue
  • propose relevant action lines to help practionners to better understand and react.

The concept note is available (in French) here.
