Objectives: NDC envisions a long-term plan for sustainable agricultural development in Lebanon that relies on regenerative agriculture principles and methodologies, en-route to achieving societal food security and domestic production of strategic reserves for basic food items of the Lebanese diet.
Activities: - Grains and Pulses:
This program aims to expand domestic production of grains and pulses in Lebanon. Food security of these strategic products is enhanced through progressive increase in strategic reserves and reduction in imports.
- Poultry :
This program aims to introduce dual purpose chicken for farmer's homestead growing using natural feed. The objectives are to establish food security of two key dietary items: broiler meat and eggs; that are higher in quality and yield, to support livestock sustainability and added income to farmers
- Animal natural feed:
The program aims to introduce natural feed as a major component of poultry, cattle, and pond fish diet. Two key components of emphasis are green feed through sprouting of grains and legumes and production of mealworms as a high protein supplement. Other components such as algae and leftover vegetables, fruits, and home scraps are also being explored.
- Seasonal vegetables & fruits:
This program aims to establish model nurseries across Lebanon, to provide comprehensive support to farmers through quality seedlings, soil testing and related guidance, training workshops, technical support, and experimental lots for new varieties.
- Dairy production and veterinary services:
This program aims to support existing small and medium scale dairy operation to optimize the quality and volume of their products and improve production efficiency through machinery and automation. Increasing herd size and supportive veterinary preventative and management services are the means for sustainable higher production, herd safety and expansion through breeding.
- Fish: marine and pounds:
The program aims to expand production of marine fish by improving means and tools of domestic fishermen; and pond grown fish of large, medium, and small scale.
