Objectives: UNEP-DHI Centre for Water and Environment has as its main function to support and promote the implementation of UNEP’s Water Policy and Strategy in accordance with the future water activities approved by the UNEP Governing Council. Activities will, under the current general mandate of promoting the integration of environmental concerns and sustainable development in national water planning and policy, focus on:
- Improving management of the freshwater resources and their linkage to the coastal zone management through integrated approaches (IWRM/ICZM) at local national and regional levels;
- Enhancing national and regional/basin institutional capacities to incorporate ecosystem approaches in water management; and
- Enhancing national and regional/basin institutional capacities to take into account water related effects of Climate Change through effective and sustainable adaptation strategies.
