Abstract:
Across Cambodia, millions of people live without access to toilets or clean water. As a result, many in rural communities suffer from waterborne diseases causing diarrhea, infections and even stunting in children. The goal of WSSCC's Global Sanitation Fund programme in Cambodia is to increase access to improved sanitation in rural areas and promote the sustainable practice of key sanitation and hygiene behaviours.
The GSF programme is currently implemented in the five provinces of Kampong Cham, Kampong Speu, Kandal, Svay Rieng and Takeo.
Together with its partners, the Global Sanitation Fund has conducted community-led total sanitation triggerings in over 1,700 Cambodian villages. This resulted in a total of 445 villages being declared open-defecation free (ODF) and over 321,000 people with clean and sustainable toilets.
