Ce travail de recherche visait à caractériser les fosses de latrines pour appuyer la conception et la sélection d’outils de vidange dans la zone péri-urbaine 1B de Mzuzu. Les résultats suggèrent que le développement technologique des outils de vidange de fosses doivent se concentrer sur des diamètres maximums de 10 cm pour passer à travers le trou de la latrine, et des hauteurs de 146 cm, adaptées à la superstructure, ainsi que la capacité à pomper les déchets domestiques. This research aimed to characterise household pit latrines for designing and selecting pit latrine emptying tools in peri-urban neighbourhood of Area 1B in Mzuzu. Findings suggested
pit latrine emptying technology development focuses on a maximum tool diameter of 10 cm to fit through the keyhole (squat hole) and height of 146 cm to fit inside the superstructure, as well as supporting unlined pits and the ability to pump trash.
