Abstract:
This publication addressing the need to strengthen the public sector enabling environment to strengthen the private sector's ability to offer sanitation facilities/latrines that are affordable and durable for families in both rural and urban areas. The study to provide useful insights that contribute to the sanitation sub-sector's emerging recognition that in order to reach universal access by 2030, the private sector will need to play a key role and for that to happen at scale, the public sector has an important complimentary and supportive role to play.
This document is a good sanitation specific follow up to the document produced last year by the India based Monitor group, "Beyond the Pioneer" which provided a useful general conceptual framework for thinking about the private sector and how it can reach the poor. Contents:
