Abstract:
The IWRM MoMo project is funded by the German Federal Ministery of Education and Research (BMBF) and supervised and supported by Project Management Jülich (PTJ). The key objective of the project is the development and implementation of strategies leading towards an integrated water resources management (IWRM) for the model region Mongolia and Central Asia. Building on results of a first project phase, the currently ongoing second phase aims at improving the basic knowledge for a locally adapted IWRM while at the same time implementing first elements thereof.
The inter- and transdisciplinary approach is reflected by the project’s structure: Its three thematic modules work towards an expanded knowledge on hydrology and land use (TM 1), aquatic ecology and water quality (TM 2) and integrated urban water management (TM 3). Three cross-sectional modules focus on monitoring, data and modelling (QM 1), material flow and mass balances (QM 2) and capacity development and environmental information (QM 3). All works are carried out in close cooperation with Mongolian partners in science, administration, the business sector and the general public.
