Résumé:
Pour les Petits États Insulaires en Développement (PEID), une transition énergétique juste représente une opportunité essentielle pour renforcer leur résilience, ouvrant la voie à un développement transformateur axé sur l’autonomie et l’amélioration de la qualité de vie. En cohérence avec l’Agenda d’Antigua-et-Barbuda pour les PEID (ABAS), la prochaine phase de développement doit placer l’énergie durable au cœur des leviers de progrès.

L’approche du PNUD en matière de développement accorde la priorité à l’accélération d’une transition énergétique mondiale juste, garantissant un accès à une énergie abordable, fiable et durable. Cette vision vise à répartir équitablement les bénéfices de la transition entre les populations tout en limitant les impacts négatifs potentiels sur les communautés les plus vulnérables.

Ce document stratégique propose des mesures concrètes dans le cadre d’une feuille de route pour une transition énergétique juste, soutenant un développement durable comme levier fondamental pour offrir des opportunités économiques équitables et renforcer la résilience pour un développement humain intégré. En plaçant les énergies renouvelables au cœur du développement, les PEID peuvent tirer parti de leurs économies bleue et verte pour construire des sociétés résilientes qui valorisent pleinement leur capital naturel et social. Ce document a été élaboré en étroite collaboration avec l’Alliance des Petits États Insulaires (AOSIS). Abstract:
For Small Island Developing States (SIDS), a just energy transition holds the potential to build resilience, shaping a transformative path toward self-reliance and a higher quality of life across SIDS. In alignment with the Antigua and Barbuda Agenda for SIDS (ABAS), the next generation of development must take sustainable energy as a key lever at the center of progress.

UNDP's approach to development places at the center the priority of accelerating a global just energy transition and ensuring access to affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy. This vision intends to distribute the benefits of the transition equitably across people and society while minimizing potential negative impacts on the most vulnerable communities.

This policy paper aims to provide actionable steps within a roadmap for a just energy transition that supports sustainable development as a key lever for providing equitable economic opportunities and resilience for integrated human development. By positioning renewable energy at the heart of development, SIDS can leverage their blue and green economies to build resilient societies that take full advantage of their natural and social capital.
