Abstract:
In the 1970s the Canadian and Ghanaian governments, through CIDA, embarked on a project to provide the inhabitants of drought-ridden Ghana with clean water. Once hand-operated pumps for wells were installed and operational, the villagers had to be taught how to use their new water supply. The success of this project was due in large measure to an innovative education program involving CIDA workers and community volunteers. This film looks at the various teaching methods employed--poster campaigns, theater, music, dance and games--and examines their effectiveness in creating an awareness among the villagers of the importance of maintaining clean water supplies.
