Abstract:
Women and girls face a number of challenges, including lack of information, cultural taboos or restrictions, embarrassment and anxiety and a lack of private, safe facilities to manage their menstruation. As well as these challenges, actions that are needed to effectively respond to menstrual hygiene needs are outlined in this video.
Female and male staff and volunteers need the knowledge and confidence to engage with women, girls, men and boys right from the beginning. Working together, coordinating with others and sharing lessons with the humanitarian community is vital so that the menstrual hygiene needs of women and girls during crises are considered and properly addressed in the future.
